The Burns Valley School District was organized in 1869, formed out of the Lower Lake School District and included the area of Paradise Valley. The first Burns Valley School was built opposite the Ed Moke place before 1870. It was a small, one-room red building on a hill.

In 1885 the school house was cut in two pieces and moved with wagons and teams to the Bowers property, east of Four Corners.

In 1889, the school was torn down and a larger one room school was built.

In 1917 it was enlarged to a 2-room building and about 1927 a 3rd room was added and plumbing installed.

In 1936 a new stucco, tiled-roof school was built on the Austin Tract Addition. It had 3 classrooms, a kitchen and an auditorium with a stage. The auditorium was turned into 3 more classrooms as population grew. In 1940 another 3 classrooms were built, called the Pomo building. Soon after, a kindergarten class was added and the stage was turned into their classroom. During the 1950s and 60s, bonds were sold and more classrooms and a multipurpose room (used as a cafeteria and auditorium) were built.
